In this page, Amber rushes over to check the "GPA list" of doom- which basically just lists the top grades of the grade. I did this at first in the image of Japan (where they rank all students in terms of grades from top to bottom), but then I discovered that the middle school that I visited also did this... so yes.

I remember fussing over the gender of the characters when I started the project. Girl? Boy? Both? In the end I picked girls because let's face it- little boys tend to get more violent than little girls. And violence is fun to watch. I wasn't intending to give ideas to these little 6th graders, or start giggling and going "haha he got punched in the face" or something, because again, they will do it.

In fact funny story: As part of their exercise, I had the 6th graders write me an ending to my manga (because I kind of intentionally leave it hanging). One kid decided it was a brilliant idea to have Audrey bring a gun to school, shoot Amber to death (or was it the other way around? I can't remember), than nuke the whole place down. At the time I was rather bemused because it almost made the kids start giggling out of control. Now? It's very slightly amusing to think that after all my insistence on not using violence, there still had to be that clown in the classroom. On the other hand, it's frightening to think that similar things happen in places like Japan (aside the nuke, of course).
